The cloth
Bogolanfini begins as hand-woven cotton strip cloth, joined selvedge to selvedge before it ever meets the dye. It is dyed with a wolo bark tannin with iron-rich mud drawn from the Niger banks — the pattern is not printed on, it is drawn in mud and then the ground around it is lifted away. On this piece the mudcloth meets full-grain calfskin and technical suede, embroidered wing motif, woven bogolan mudcloth panel, sculpted gold crown hardware and z-closure™ pull. z-welt™ flight cut (zw-8392) on the z-welt™ stacked leather goodyear chassis, raked sawtooth blades set on a 12° forward rake, sculpted almond last with a lifted toe spring, stack 28 mm heel / 18 mm forefoot, 10 mm drop, laced in heavy bogolan rope lace, brass-crimped tips, diamond z at the lateral wall, z-vibe at the medial wall.
