The cloth
Bogolanfini begins as hand-woven cotton strip cloth, joined selvedge to selvedge before it ever meets the dye. It is dyed with a wolo bark tannin with iron-rich mud drawn from the Niger banks — the pattern is not printed on, it is drawn in mud and then the ground around it is lifted away. On this piece the mudcloth meets house leather and suede upper with belt-strap architecture, woven bogolan mudcloth trim panel, bogolan mudcloth lacing, aged-gold z-closure™ buckle hardware, stacked lug outsole. z-grip™ derby cut (zg-8032) on the z-grip™ lugged rubber chassis, raked sawtooth blades set on a 12° forward rake, sculpted almond last with a lifted toe spring, stack 28 mm heel / 18 mm forefoot, 10 mm drop, laced in heavy bogolan rope lace, brass-crimped tips, diamond z at the lateral wall, z-vibe at the medial wall.
