The design story

Z-Rail Comet — a comet tapered rail sole with a gold spine and mudcloth heel counter. Bogolan mudcloth is placed as a considered construction detail, never as surface print, and the aged-gold Z-Closure™ hardware signs the shoe.

Ten rail-form sole architectures: continuous track midsoles, sculpted sidewalls and one Bogolan mudcloth reveal on each pair.

Fit guidance

True to size. Half size up if you wear a thick sock or prefer extra toe room.

Width: Standard D width, generous forefoot volume.
Last: rounded volume last with a deep instep for thick socks

Break-in: Wearable straight from the box.
Socks: Sized with a thermal sock in mind — keep your usual size unless you layer two pairs.
Lacing: narrow Bogolan ribbon lace with a hand-knotted stopper Re-lace from the throat up for a locked midfoot.
Z-Glide™ wheels: Fit is measured with the wheels retracted flush to the sole. Deployed, the stack rises a few millimetres — no size change required.

Z-Beam™ lighting modes

Off: Lighting module dormant. The lens reads as a brushed aged-gold inlay at the toe.
Running light: A low ivory running light traces the toe cap — presence, not glare.
Headlight: Twin forward headlights throw a warm beam ahead of the step for night streets.
Turn signal: Amber side pulse at the quarter panel, the pedestrian's indicator.

Chassis, hubs and heel cell are carried inside the midsole cavity so the shoe still reads as ready-to-wear.

Step 1 · Lock

You do: Press the heel collar down until it clicks.
Chassis: Both axles retract into the midsole cavity and the collar pin engages.
Underfoot: A firm, quiet outsole — the shoe behaves as a walking sneaker with no wheel travel.

Wheels fully retracted into the chassis, level with the bottom of the sole. The collar is pinned — the shoe walks like any luxury sneaker.

The Bogolan story

The cloth

Bogolanfini begins as cotton mudcloth backed with a fine leather skiver so it can take a lace and a lasting pull. It is dyed with a wolo bark tannin with iron-rich mud drawn from the Niger banks — the pattern is not printed on, it is drawn in mud and then the ground around it is lifted away. The motif — Kanaga

The tape carries twin arms above a bar, repeated along the tape. In the Bamana reading, Kanaga is the sign of the crossing — passage between worlds, carried by travellers. Z-Vibe keeps the motif at heritage scale rather than shrinking it into a logo pattern, so the hand of the maker stays legible on the finished shoe.

Why it sits where it sits

Mudcloth is placed on construction points, never scattered as decoration: crop neck band, left cuff, right cuff, front placket. These are the lines the eye already follows on this silhouette, so the cloth reads as structure — an edge, a facing, a seam — and holds its meaning at three metres and at arm's length alike.

The hand-work

Each length is bias-cut for the curved runs, hand-basted before the topstitch so the motif never breaks at a seam. Tape width and motif repeat are cut to the size band, so a petite run and an extended run carry the same proportion rather than the same measurement.
