The design story

Z-Lion Regal Alabaster — an ivory knit slip-on with a polished gold heel clip. The Z-Glide Wheel System™ is fitted: lock the wheels flush with the sole to walk, or deploy them below the sole to roll, with Z-Beam™ lighting at the toe. Bogolan mudcloth is placed as a considered construction detail, never as surface print, and the aged-gold Z-Closure™ hardware signs the shoe.

Ten house shoes from the approved Z-Lion™ board — Strength with grace. Each pair carries the Z-Glide Wheel System™: lock the wheels flush to walk, deploy them to roll, and light the step with Z-Beam™.

Fit guidance

Relaxed entry, secure heel. Take your usual size — the opening is designed to hold without lacing.

Width: Standard D width with a stretch topline that accommodates a higher instep.
Last: rounded volume last with a deep instep for thick socks
Stack: 22 mm heel / 18 mm forefoot, 4 mm drop
Break-in: No break-in needed.
Socks: Sized with a thermal sock in mind — keep your usual size unless you layer two pairs.
Lacing: round braided Bogolan cord over a waxed core, aged-gold aglets Re-lace from the throat up for a locked midfoot.
Z-Glide™ wheels: Fit is measured with the wheels retracted flush to the sole. Deployed, the stack rises a few millimetres — no size change required.

Turn signal: Amber side pulse at the quarter panel, the pedestrian's indicator.

Step 1 · Lock

You do: Press the heel collar down until it clicks.
Chassis: Both axles retract into the midsole cavity and the collar pin engages.
Underfoot: A firm, quiet outsole — the shoe behaves as a walking sneaker with no wheel travel.

Wheels fully retracted into the chassis, level with the bottom of the sole. The collar is pinned — the shoe walks like any luxury sneaker.

The cloth

Bogolanfini begins as cotton mudcloth backed with a fine leather skiver so it can take a lace and a lasting pull. It is dyed with a n'tjankara leaf mordant followed by a slow black-mud pass — the pattern is not printed on, it is drawn in mud and then the ground around it is lifted away. The motif — Fila-ni

The tape carries paired diagonals folding into one another. In the Bamana reading, Fila-ni is two paths that meet — the House reading of Different Roots, One Human Story. Z-Vibe keeps the motif at heritage scale rather than shrinking it into a logo pattern, so the hand of the maker stays legible on the finished shoe.

Why it sits where it sits

Mudcloth is placed on construction points, never scattered as decoration: crop neck band, left cuff, right cuff, front placket. These are the lines the eye already follows on this silhouette, so the cloth reads as structure — an edge, a facing, a seam — and holds its meaning at three metres and at arm's length alike.

The hand-work

Each length is block-matched panel to panel — the atelier discards any length where the repeat cannot be aligned. Tape width and motif repeat are cut to the size band, so a petite run and an extended run carry the same proportion rather than the same measurement.

Care · Spot-clean the mudcloth with cool water and a soft cloth. Dry-clean the body of the piece; the tape is colour-set but not bleach-safe.
